Lesemes, a family wine project in L´arboç

Vinatur blog lesemes familie wijnproject

Last Saturday we had a tasting at Lesemes vineyards in Castellet. Lesemes is Catalan for: “the M's”.
It is the first letter of the names of the three sisters Marta, Maria y Mercè. Their last name is Mestre Montserrat.

Their vineyards are located in one of the most beautiful places of the Penedès. I always run there with my dogs. From their vineyards you look at the medieval town Castellet (Castellet i la Gornal (Alt Penedès – Barcelona) | femturisme https://www.femturisme.cat/en/villages/castellet-i-la-gornal) and if you turn 90 degrees, you will see the mountain Montmell (the highest mountain of the Penedès).
A great opportunity to taste their wines in the vineyard with traditional Catalan music from http://www.elsvinardells.cat/s and enjoy a sunset.

At the moment Lesemes only produces for its own production. Their wine is already served at many parties and events in L'Arboç. The grape varieties they work with include Syrah, Chardonnay, Malvasía and Xarello Vermell. They make ancestral wine from Xarel.lo and from Parellada (the two grapes that together with Macabeo form the trio for the cava in Catalonia).

What is ancestral? An ancient method! The wine is bottled in the bottle without the fermentation being completed. The leftover yeast causes the wine to get bubbles. This method is called the méthode ancestrale.
We also tasted a fresh white wine from Xarel.lo and a red wine from the Syrah grape.

Their father can be found in the vineyard every day. Together with his daughter Maria (vinologist) they produce the wines of Lesemes. We wish Lesemes good luck and hope to find their wines in the store soon..
