Corpinnat celebrates its third birthday!

Open day at the eleven participating wineries.

Corpinnat: what does that mean

Corpinnat is a collective brand for sparkling wines. Freely translated, Corpinnat means: “Born in the Penedès”. Eleven renowned wineries in the Penedès joined forces and worked together on this quality brand. Including big names like: Gramona, llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Huguet-Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, Mas Candí, Pardas and Can Descregut. They went their own way independently of the DO Cava (Denominación de origen Cava).

n 1986 the “Denominación de origen del Cava” was founded with the aim of guaranteeing the quality and vinification (preparation) of this sparkling wine. This DO became multi-territorial. This meant that it was not only allowed to make Cava in Penedès, but also in other regions such as: La Rioja, Aragon, País Vasco, Navarra, Valencia and Extremadura. However, the largest part of the Cava production (95%!) comes and came from the Penedès. That is why a number of projects have arisen that wanted to link the production of cava more to their own region, namely Clàssic Penedes (linked to the DO Penedès) and 3 years ago then Corpinnat.

Het merk Corpinnat wordt beheerst door hoge kwaliteit eisen zoals:

  • The vineyard must be 100% organic.
  • The harvest of the grapes is manual
  • Vinification (winemaking) takes place at the winery itself, in its own cellar.
  • The maturation period is at least 18 months, but often much longer.
  • 90% percent of the grapes in a combination of the historical grape varieties (Macabeo, Xarel.lo, Parellada or Malvasia) and only for the other 10%, exotic grape varieties such as Pinot Noir or Chardonnay may be used.
  • The grapes purchased have a guaranteed minimum price. These grapes must also be grown organically.

Visiting winery Llopart:

We celebrate this birthday at winery “Llopart”. The location is beautiful, on a hill with fantastic views over the Penedès and the mountains: “Montserrat”. What a panorama!

Let's go. The sympathetic guide gives us an extensive tour of the vineyards of Llopart. We climb to the highest point and find a hut there made of Piedra seca (dry stones) Piedra Seca. These huts are typically Catalan and often found in the vineyards. It is a traditionally built hut built entirely of stone, where tools were stored in the past, sheltered from rain or the cattle drank water. In addition, a table is set up with chilled bottles of Corpinnat. We taste: LLopart Panoramic Imperial Brut.

Delicious fine bubbles rise up in the glass. The long maturation (2014) gives flavors of nuts and honey, creamy and nice and fresh. The combination of grapes is Xarel lo (50%), Macabeu (40%) and Parellada (10%). And can we taste the high quality requirements? We say yes right away!

We descend through the vineyard into the cellars. In a small cinema, we take a seat on a stool in the shape of a cava cork (we managed to keep our balance) we watch a documentary about Llopart. There is a lot of love and passion from their way of working and for the Penedès where all the work takes place. The cellars are impressive. In the far corner behind an iron gate are the special and special wines.

We don't go home empty handed and buy the Panoramic Imperial Brut (we were sold at the first sip), the Rose Brut Reserva(a combination of 60% Monastrell(Mourvèdre), 20% Garnacha and 20% Pinot Noir) and the beautiful glasses because they are perfect for sparkling wines.
